Shimano UUM Bike Challenge to take place near Langkawi

Cycling enthusiasts will be pedalling for their lives in the Malaysian state of Kedah next month as the Shimano University Utara Malaysia (UUM) Bike Challenge kicks off.

Set to take place on November 6th 2010 in Sintok, the event is designed to be equally as tough for mountain bikers as it is for road riders, with the organisers stating it will test everything from physical technique to stress management.

Entrants’ stamina, determination and strategy will need to be at their peak if they are to have any chance of winning the gruelling race.

According to the team behind the UUM Bike Challenge, the 2009 event was a success and inspired them to make this year’s iteration even bigger and better than before.

As a result, the competition’s official online partner Baik Bike has claimed there are likely to be more than 1,000 other cyclists taking part in what the website described as “one of the most extreme routes in Malaysia”.

With demand likely to be so high, potential entrants should register their places as soon as possible, as well as booking nearby accommodation such as Langkawi hotels.

Participation in the Road Bike Challenge and XC Bike Challenge costs 120 Malaysian ringgits (£24.50), while the Fun Ride is priced at 70 Malaysian ringgits.
